RECYCLING INFORMATION
Recycle for Free:
Aluminum: Soda cans. Remember, your recycling efforts are crucial for a sustainable future.
FUN FACT: All clean, recycled materials are sold at market price to offset the operational budget!
METAL & TIN: Soup cans, tuna cans, as long as the object is MOSTLY metal.
Corrugated Cardboard: Corrugated board is typically made of at least three layers: two outer layers of linerboard and an inner layer of fluted (wavy) cardboard. To ensure efficient recycling, corrugated cardboard must be wet or grease-free and broken into 2’x4’ piles.
Boxboard: These would be your cereal, shoe, detergent, cracker, cookie, baking product, frozen food boxes, toilet paper rolls, or other similar items, with the PLASTICS removed. Boxboard means thick paper packaging without a corrugated core. The cardboard MUST be dry and free of grease (pizza).
Plastic: Plastic # 1-7. NO shopping bags or grain bags, sheet plastic, or take-out containers.
Glass: Bottles and jars with necks. No sheet glass or porcelain or lights.
Loose Paper: Paper bags, newspapers, magazines, junk mail, computer paper. Be careful with junk mail and those plastic fake credit cards! No wrapping paper or foil paper.
Compost: Lawn and garden compost, leaves, grass clippings. Located behind the recycling hut.
Brush: 5” diameter or less. No dimensional lumber or plywood of any sort is allowed.
Pallets: Yes! Located behind the recycling hut.
Batteries: Car batteries, truck, tractor, motorcycle, rechargeable lithium batteries
Motor Oil: Must be clean with no water or antifreeze.
FUN FACT! We use the motor oil to heat the Highway facility!
Gravel Debris: Rocks, bricks, cinder-blocks, clean no wood or metal allowed.
FUN FACT: The debris gets crushed and transformed into gravel for use on town roads!
Solid Waste Disposal Fees:
Due to the extra costs associated with the processing or removal of certain categories of items, the following special fees will be assessed:
1. Car and truck tires 5 lbs. to 25 lbs. 5.50 (per tire)
2. Truck tires 25 lbs. to 35 lbs. 9.50 (per tire)
3. Truck, tractor-trailer / heavy commercial 35 lbs. to 45 lbs. (per tire) 22.50
* All other tires will follow the special tire price sheet (see attendant)
4. Air Conditioners, Refrigerators, Freezers (per item) 15.00
7. Demolition materials or household materials 250.00 per ton
8. Propane Tanks
* 1 lbs. tank 2.50

Paint:We do accept used paint as long as it is dry, or it can be brought to the Keene transfer station on their hazardous waste days. They also accept hazardous materials.
Town Recycle Bins: The town still sells plastic recycle bins for $10 each.
Household Hazardous Waste
Hazardous waste will not be accepted at the Hinsdale Transfer Station
Residents may use the Keene Transfer Station Household Hazardous Waste Collection to dispose of these products. There is a charge for this service.
The collection site is adjacent to the Keene Recycling Center on Route 12 North. Almost every home has products that should be disposed of in an environmentally safe manner. These include anything containing mercury, such as batteries, thermometers, thermostats, and fluorescent lamps, as well as antifreeze, turpentine, lead-based paint, WD40, brake fluid, pesticides, old cleaning supplies, charcoal starters, etc. Please take advantage of this service.
