The Tax Collector's Office is responsible for collecting revenue from property taxes, yield taxes, current use taxes, and excavation tax. If these taxes and fees go unpaid then we are responsible for the Tax Lien and the Deeding process. The office also responds to the inquiries from banks, mortgage companies, attorneys, and real estate agents. The Tax Collector's office works closely with the Assessors and the Planning/Zoning office.

Payments can always be made via drop box, mail, or coming into see the tax collector during operating hours.

All payments made in person or via the drop box should be accompanied by the attached coupon from the bill. If paying early, your billing account number should be written in the memo field of your check. (The first five numbers excluding the zero’s in the front) If you have multiple parcels the map and lot number is needed.

Please enclose your detachment from your bill for the quarter you are looking to pay.
If you are paying back taxes please add a note explaining what year and quarter you want me to post payment to.
If you are paying your taxes in person still bring in your detachment from your bill showing which quarter you are paying.

From The Desk Of The Tax Collector

The 2024 Tax Rate is in and we apologize for the delay. The Board of Selectmen in the past and this year have used a portion of the Unretained Fund Balance to buy down the Town portion of Tax Rate. The Tax Rate was estimated at $30.07 per thousand dollars of assessed value. The Unretained Fund Balance was $514,108. The Board of Selectmen chose to use $300,000 to reduce the Tax Rate by $0.68 establishing the 2024 Tax Rate of $29.39.

The Board of Selectmen and the Budget Committee have been meeting to discuss the 2025-2026 Proposed Budget. Meetings for all Board of Selectmen and Budget Committee meetings are posted at T-Bird, Main Street Market and on the Town’s Website https://www.town.hinsdale.nh.us. The public is welcome at any meeting.

The Tax Collector’s Office will be mailing the second tax bill for 2024 on Tuesday, December 17, 2024.

Payment arrangements can be made with the Tax Collector:

Your arrangement must bring all past due taxes and currently due taxes current within 12 months.

There are always extenuating circumstances where a payment arrangement should be done. If you have circumstances you’d like to discuss with the Board of Selectman you can do this in writing, directly with a scheduled non-public (reputation) time during a Select Board meeting or through the Tax Collector speaking in a non-public (reputation) on your behalf at a Select Board meeting. Payment arrangements should help the resident payoff previous taxes in an agreed upon amount of time. During your payment arrangement period current taxes are expected to be current.

In 1999, the town voted to accept pre-payments on taxes. If you wish to make monthly payments towards your current or upcoming taxes we do accept payment. If you have back taxes realize all payments will be paid toward the oldest invoice unless otherwise noted in writing.
