Board of Selectmen

The Hinsdale Board of Selectmen consists of five elected members, each serving a three-year term.

A fundamental principle in both the United States Constitution and the New Hampshire Constitution is the separation of powers among different branches of government. In designing municipal government, the New Hampshire legislature has evidently kept separation of powers firmly in mind. In towns, powers are apportioned among the town meeting and a long list of boards and individual officials charged with certain duties. Among boards and officials, the board of selectmen, of course, has unique statutory powers to administer the operations of the town, including authority to "manage the prudential affairs of the town."  (NHMA, 2020)

Under RSA 91-A, (“Right to Know”) all business, except in those situations specifically exempted by statute, must be conducted in a public session with duly posted notice.

From The Desk Of The Selectmen

The Board of Selectmen always strive to be transparent and will continue in the future.  Currently, the Board has applied for a grant to cover the cost of streaming their weekly meetings, for those that cannot join.  The Executive Secretary transcribes minutes of every meeting and posts them on the website after approved by the Board, at their weekly meetings.  The Town Administrator posts her notes from weekly meetings on the Town’s Website.  The Town’s Website link is: https://www.town.hinsdale.nh.us/

The Board would like to thank all of the participants at Town Meeting.  They would also like to thank the Town Clerk, Supervisors of the Checklist, Ballot Clerks and Moderators for all of their hard work through the election process.  A lot of work goes into the budget process between September to Town Meeting by the Department Heads, Town Administrator, Finance Director, Board of Selectmen and the Budget Committee.  Meetings and the Public Hearing are always open to the public.

Next year, 2026, voting for Zoning Amendments and Town Officials is planned for Tuesday, March 10th and Town Meeting is planned for Saturday, March 14th.  The Town portion of the meeting will begin first at 9am in 2026, and the School portion will begin after the Town’s conclusion or at 10am.

Thank you all,

Kathryn Lynch, Town Administrator
