Level of Service Public Workshop, Hinsdale Town Hall, Monday, November 3, 2025 at 6:30 pm.

Do you know why you’re not supposed to pour grease down the drain?

Do you know why tree roots break into sewer laterals and sewer mains?

Do  you know what renovations are needed for the Hinsdale Wastewater Treatment Plant which went into operation on October 22, 1979?

Come to the Level of Service Public Workshop on Monday, November 3, 2025 to learn the answers to these questions.

During this meeting operators of the sewer treatment and sewer collection system will describe what they do to ensure that the residents and businesses of Hinsdale have reliable access to wastewater services.

Reliable access to wastewater services is necessary to protect public health and to promote and sustain commercial growth.  How much, of what nature, and how frequently service is provided affects operational costs, capital budgets, and sewer rates.

We want to hear your thoughts on how we can work together to economically meet Hinsdale’s environmental responsibilities and regulatory requirements.

Here are a few items to get the conversation started:

  • The Hinsdale Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF) was placed in service in 1979.  Most of the equipment is original and needs to be replaced or rehabilitated.
  • The State of New Hampshire placed a moratorium on new connections to the system on November 27, 2006, due to inflows at the plant consistently being over 80% of the design flow. The State rescinded the moratorium on February 1, 2011.  An annual collection inspection, rehabilitation and replacement program has kept large volumes of groundwater and rainwater runoff from being transported to the WWTF to be unnecessarily treated.  As the system ages, this program will need additional funding.
  • Flushable wipes and other non-dispersibles clog pumps at the lift station and the WWTF resulting in additional maintenance and operational costs.

We look forward to developing Level of Service goals that enable the Hinsdale Sewer Department to continue to meet federal and state regulations while improving system reliability and protecting community health, safety and security.

Refreshments will be served.
