Gardening Series:

August 26th  Composting Presentation at 6pm- Master Gardner, Ron Trexler from the UNH Extension will host a presentation here about composting at home, we ask that you pre-register but drop ins are welcome. More info below!

 

September 16th Putting the Garden to Bed Presentation at 6pm-Master Gardner, Ron Trexler from the UNH Extension will host a presentation here at the Community Center about things we should do to put our gardens to bed for the winter months. We ask that you pre-register but drop ins are welcome. More info below!

 

September 18th Senior Luncheon at 12:00- 2:00pm (Menu is TBD)

 

September 23rd we will be having a senior exercise class from 3-4pm. This class will include exercises you can do standing or sitting in a chair.

 

 

Details from the UNH Extension on our Garden Series Presentations!

 

Composting – 6pm

Approximate time: 70-90 minutes, including Q & A

Audience: Adults of all ages

If you aren’t already composting, come find out why you should be and how easy it is to get started. If you’re already composting, come learn some new tips and tricks. This presentation is geared for both beginners and experienced composters alike. Attendees will learn what compost is and why composting is important; about the various organisms that make compost happen, what materials are required for a successful compost, the many different methods for constructing a compost pile and which is best for their individual situation, and finally, how to resolve any issues that might arise. Note: The presentation does not cover vermicomposting (worm composting).

 

Putting the Garden to Bed – 6pm

Approximate time: 75--90 minutes, including Q & A

Audience: Adults of all ages

During this presentation attendees will learn the steps necessary to properly prepare their gardens for winter, including: finishing off annuals and vegetable beds, preparing perennial beds to reduce pests and disease, overwintering non-hardy plants, readying ornamental shrubs and evergreens to survive various winter conditions, and tending to tools and supplies.
